This week, we have shared another founder story and this one begins with something many people will recognise...confusion. Not the kind that disappears quickly, but the kind that lingers when you’re navigating a new system, in a new country, without a clear guide.
Carina’s Story
Carina Chen arrived in the UK as an international student with ambition, but very little understanding of how the rental system actually worked.
Like so many others, she found herself guessing her way through contracts, deposits, and listings that didn’t always feel trustworthy. And then, one moment changed everything. A broken washing machine. Months of silence. No clear answers.
Instead of accepting it, Carina did something different. She researched her rights, challenged the situation properly, and within a week the issue was resolved. But the bigger question stayed with her: Why does no one explain this clearly?
That question became HelloTenant — a platform designed to help renters avoid scams, protect their deposits, and navigate the UK rental system with confidence instead of guesswork.
Her story isn’t just about building a business, it’s about turning lived frustration into something that helps thousands of others avoid the same experience.
A Milestone Worth Celebrating
Recently, we shared Sean’s journey to Indefinite Leave to Remain which is a story that resonated with so many of you.
It wasn’t just about the outcome. It was about the years of building, adapting, and staying the course through uncertainty. Sean’s achievement is a reminder that ILR isn’t just a status — it’s a moment of real arrival after a long entrepreneurial journey.
And we’re excited to share that Sean won’t be the last.
Another ILR success story is already in the pipeline and we’ll be publishing it next month. Although a very different journey, it's just as powerful.
Throwback Thursday

The Sisters Who Decided Security Could Be Done Better
Back in September, we published the story of Aliona and Aurela two sisters who looked at the security industry and saw not a career path, but a problem worth solving. Anyone who has ever tried to book reliable security cover will know exactly what they mean. Last-minute scrambles, unreliable agencies, no real accountability. It was broken, and everyone in the industry seemed to have quietly accepted that.
Aliona and Aurela did not. What they built instead, Surely, is best described as the Airbnb of security hiring: a platform that puts transparency, trust and flexibility at the centre, giving clients confidence and giving guards the consistent, fairly-treated opportunities they deserve. Two sisters, one shared frustration, and a vision that goes well beyond London.
It is a story worth revisiting.

Are You on the Road to ILR?
Your story matters. Every week we hear from founders who say they wish they had known someone further along the path when they were starting out. That person could be you.
Whether you are just beginning your Innovator Founder Visa journey, working through milestone reviews, celebrating a recent win, or simply want to share honestly what the process has really been like — we want to hear from you. You do not need a polished story or a happy ending yet. In-progress accounts are just as powerful.
If you are willing to share, we would love to help you tell it.

A Few Words from Founders We’ve Worked With
We’re incredibly grateful for the kind words many of you have shared with us. Here are just a couple that stood out:
“The process felt overwhelming at first, but having the right guidance made all the difference. It gave me clarity and confidence at every stage.”
“What stood out most was how much they genuinely understood the founder journey, not just the visa requirements.”
If we’ve worked together and you haven’t yet shared your experience, we’d really appreciate it if you did. Your feedback not only helps us — it helps future founders feel more confident about taking the leap.
