If you have recently submitted your Innovator Founder Visa application, there is a good chance you have already refreshed your inbox more times than you would like to admit. It is completely natural. You have put together a business plan, gathered your documents, made your payment, and now you are waiting for a decision that will shape the next chapter of your life in the UK. Of course you want to know what happens next, and when.
This is easily one of the most common questions we hear, both in the community and out in the wider world of Innovator Founder groups and forums. So we wanted to set out, honestly and clearly, what the process actually looks like, how long it tends to take right now, and what "no news" really means while you are waiting.
What the assessment process involves
Every application submitted to Innovator International goes through the same structured journey. First, you complete your application form. Second, you submit your supporting documents and complete payment. Third, your project is assessed by our expert team, who work through what we call our Maturity Matrix, a framework that looks in depth at how strong and how mature your business proposition really is, from innovation and viability through to scalability, market fit, and your settlement targets. Finally, if your application is successful, your endorsement is issued and your support with us begins.
It is worth saying plainly that this is a genuine assessment, not a formality. Our assessors are looking closely at the substance of your plan, which is exactly why the process takes the time it does.
So, how long does it actually take?
This is the part everyone wants a straight answer to, so here it is. Across a typical application, our official guidance is that endorsement takes around four weeks from first contact to decision. In practice, thanks to a growing assessor team and some new processes we have put in place this year, we have - on average - been running considerably faster than that.
In August, our average processing time came in at under 22 calendar days per application. That is a genuine improvement, and one the whole assessment team is proud of.
A couple of things are worth understanding about that number, though. It is an average, not a promise. Some applications move through in as little as five days. Others, particularly where a plan needs closer scrutiny or additional clarification, can take closer to 40. The upper limit we work to is 60 days. If your application is taking a little longer than someone else's in the group, that does not mean something has gone wrong. It usually just means your assessor is taking the time your particular plan needs.
It is also worth flagging that these figures are calendar days, not working days. So a wait that spans a bank holiday or a quieter August week will still count every day, weekends included.
What "no news" actually means
One of the most common sources of anxiety we see is simply not hearing anything for a while. We understand why. But the honest answer is that silence during this period is completely normal, and it does not mean your application has been forgotten or set aside.
You will not receive routine progress updates while your application sits with an assessor. If your assessor has a question about your plan, or needs a piece of clarification, they will reach out to you directly. If they do not need anything further from you, the next contact you receive will simply be the outcome, either your endorsement, a request to attend a due diligence interview, or, in some cases, a refusal.
So if your inbox has been quiet, the most likely explanation is also the most reassuring one. Your application is still being worked through.
When to actually reach out
We would rather be upfront about this than leave anyone guessing. We begin actively investigating an individual case once it has passed 50 days with no reply. Before that point, a quiet inbox is simply part of a working assessment process rather than a sign of a problem.
If you do reach that stage, or if something about your circumstances genuinely changes while you are waiting, our team is always reachable and happy to help you understand where things stand.
Why timelines have improved
The drop in average processing time this year has not happened by accident. We have trained up a number of new assessors over recent months, and alongside that we have refined several of our internal processes to make the journey from submission to decision smoother, without cutting any corners on the depth of assessment your plan deserves. It is a genuine team effort, and one we are keen to keep building on.
The short version
Expect roughly three to four weeks on average, know that anything up to 60 days is within normal range, understand that no news genuinely is good news during that window, and trust that if an assessor needs something from you, they will be in touch directly. Beyond that, the best thing you can do while you wait is exactly what most founders tell us they wish they had done sooner: get involved in the Pulse community, make use of the resources and webinars available to you, and spend the time preparing for what comes after your endorsement rather than watching the clock.
We know waiting is never easy when so much is riding on the outcome. But the numbers are moving in the right direction, and we are working hard to keep them there.
