Can we just take a moment?
Not to review your progress against your milestones. Not to look at your pipeline or your visa timeline or the list of things you said you'd have done by now. Just a moment to stop, breathe, and hear something that nobody seems to say out loud nearly enough.
You are doing better than you think.
I know that might be hard to believe right now. Maybe the business is moving more slowly than you planned. Maybe a door you really needed to open has stayed firmly shut. Maybe the visa process has stretched into weeks you didn't budget for, and the uncertainty is sitting heavy on your chest in a way that's hard to explain to anyone who hasn't been through it. Maybe you spoke to someone from home last night and afterwards felt the distance more sharply than usual, that specific kind of quiet that follows a call when you suddenly remember how far away everything familiar is.
That feeling is real. It deserves to be acknowledged, not pushed past.
But here is what is also real. You left. You made a decision that most people in the world will never make, to uproot your life, navigate an entirely new system in an entirely new country, and build something from scratch in a market that didn't already know your name. That takes a kind of courage that doesn't get celebrated enough, because most of the people around you are also just getting on with it, which makes it look normal. It isn't normal. It's remarkable.
In our recent event with Venture Cafe and Tech Nation, guest speaker Jessica Mendoza explained how too many people gloss over the fact that they have achieved something that is been endorsed by the UK government, whereas many others don't get to this point. If you've got your Visa then both Innovator International and the UK government have stated that you've developed a business proposition that's innovative, viable and scalable and is most likely to contribute to the UK economy. That's a massive start in itself.
And you are still here, still doing it, even on the hard days. Especially on the hard days.
The thing about building a business is that progress is often invisible from the inside. You are too close to it. You know every gap, every delay, every version of the plan that didn't work out. What you can't see as easily is the thing that's accumulating underneath all of that: knowledge, relationships, resilience, understanding of a market that was completely foreign to you not long ago. That's not nothing. That's the foundation of everything that comes next.
The founders whose stories we tell on Pulse didn't have smooth journeys. Pragya reformulated and tested and failed and tried again before Granlab became what it is. Sean arrived in the UK with a vision for Hyper EV and spent three years building the evidence and the relationships and the credibility that eventually earned him Indefinite Leave to Remain. Carina's washing machine broke, and instead of giving up on a system that had let her down repeatedly, she built HelloTenant so nobody else would have to feel that powerless. Every single one of them had moments where they weren't sure it was going to work.
They kept going anyway.
So on the days when it feels like you're not moving fast enough, or you're not measuring up to some imaginary version of where you should be by now, I want you to try something. Write down three things that are true today that weren't true six months ago. Three things you know now that you didn't know then. Three connections, or conversations, or small wins that happened this week, even if they don't feel significant enough to count.
You are not behind. You are on your own timeline, building something real, in conditions that most people would find genuinely difficult. The process is slow sometimes. The country is grey sometimes. Home feels far away sometimes. That's all allowed.
